About Home Generator Index
Last updated:ByStandby Power Desk
Home Generator Index is an independent register of Greater Toronto Area standby generator installers, transfer switch specialists and backup power contractors, ranked by a published 0-100 score built from reviews, what each company states on its own website and its record. This page explains who builds Home Generator Index, how it works, and the editorial rules that keep the rankings honest.
Who runs Home Generator Index?
Home Generator Index is compiled and maintained by the Standby Power Desk, an independent editorial team. We are not owned by, funded by, or affiliated with any listed business, we sell no equipment, and no business can pay for a better position. The team builds the dataset from public Google Maps records, applies the ranking formula published on our methodology page, and reviews every dataset and price guide before it goes live.
What does Home Generator Index do?
Home Generator Index does one thing. It ranks generator and backup power companies across the Greater Toronto Area by a published 0-100 score built from reviews, what each company states on its own website and its record, then sends you straight to the company by phone or profile page. There is nothing here to fill in, we never take your details, and we pass nothing to a contractor. We currently track 480 companies in 8 categories, covering the electrical, gas and battery sides of a backup power job.
How does Home Generator Index make money without selling rankings?
Home Generator Index is free to read and free to be listed on. Today the register earns nothing; if it ever does, revenue will come from clearly labelled promotion, kept separate from the rankings on purpose. No company can buy a higher rank, ever. Keeping money and rankings apart is the whole point, because a register you cannot trust is worthless.
What are Home Generator Index's editorial standards?
Home Generator Index follows four rules on every page. Rankings are never for sale, review data comes only from public Google Maps profiles, market pricing is always attributed to a named source, and any reader or business owner can request a correction. Those standards are what let us claim these 480 listings are ranked on merit.
No pay-to-rank
Position is worked out by a formula published in full on the methodology page. There is no slot to buy, and buying one would not move the order.
Review data, unedited
Ratings and review counts are read straight off Google Maps and reproduced unchanged. We write none of them, buy none of them and edit none of them, and a poor review counts exactly as much as a good one.
Named pricing sources
Cost figures cite the specific GTA contractor, manufacturer or authority they came from, so you can check them yourself.
Open corrections
Spot something wrong? Email standby@homegeneratorindex.ca and we fix or remove it. Listings are assembled with automated tooling and reviewed by the team, so mistakes are possible and we want to hear about them.
What is in the Home Generator Index dataset?
The August 2026 Home Generator Index dataset holds 480 GTA backup power companies spread across 8 categories and 44 mapped areas, 16 of which carry a page of their own. Across the 430 companies carrying a rating, the mean comes to 4.8 stars, the middle company sits on 32 reviews, and 75.1% of them are at 4.8 stars or above. We map each company to a Toronto neighbourhood, borough or GTA city so results reflect who serves your street.
