Privacy Policy

Last updated:

This policy explains what personal information Home Generator Index handles, how we use it, and the choices you have. Home Generator Index covers the Greater Toronto Area and is operated from Ontario, Canada. We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Effective date: September 7, 2026.

What information does Home Generator Index collect?

Almost none. Home Generator Index is a register you read. There is no request form, no contact form, no sign-up and no account, so there is nothing here for you to fill in and nothing for us to store. If you email us, we hold that email and whatever you chose to put in it. Email to us is relayed by an email forwarding service, Forward Email, into a mailbox hosted by Google. Our host, Vercel, also keeps standard server logs, including your IP address and browser type, to keep the site online and secure. Please do not send us sensitive information such as financial account numbers.

How does Home Generator Index use it?

We use your email only to answer you. We do not sell personal information, we share nothing with the businesses listed on this site except what you send through the quote form, and we do not use it for advertising. Server logs are used only for security, troubleshooting and preventing abuse.

Does Home Generator Index contact the businesses on your behalf?

No, and this is worth stating plainly. Home Generator Index does not pass your details to anyone. When you find a business here you contact it yourself, using the phone number or website on its profile. Anything you then tell that business is between you and them, under their own privacy practices. We are not part of that conversation and never see it.

Does Home Generator Index use cookies or analytics?

Yes, one: Google Analytics. It counts visits so we can see which pages get read and which ones nobody finds. It is the only third-party script on this site. There is no advertising pixel, no ad network and no cross-site advertising profile of you.

Google Analytics sets two cookies in your browser, named _ga and _ga_SYWRQ7PLYZ. Measured on this site, both expire about 13 months after your visit. They hold a randomly generated number that tells one browser apart from another, so a second visit is not counted as a second person. We do not use them to work out who you are, we never attach a name or an email to them, and we do not sell or share what they record. Our host may also set what is strictly necessary to serve the pages.

To opt out, install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or block cookies for this site in your browser settings. Every page works exactly the same either way.

Until August 19, 2026 this page said Home Generator Index ran no third-party analytics and set no cookies of its own, and promised to update this policy before adding any. The analytics tag went live that day and this page was not changed with it, so for several hours both statements were untrue on every page of the site. They have been replaced with the paragraphs above rather than quietly removed.

How does Home Generator Index handle business listing data?

Our directory lists businesses using public information, such as company names, addresses, phone numbers, ratings and reviews sourced from Google Maps and business websites. Most of that is business data rather than information about a private individual, but not all of it. Two exceptions are worth stating plainly. Where a business is run by one person, its contact details may also be that person's personal information. And a profile page quotes up to five customer reviews from that company's public Google listing, shown with the reviewer's first name; the reviewer's full name as it appears on Google is also carried in the machine-readable structured data in the page source. If you wrote one of those reviews, that is your personal information and PIPEDA applies to it.

No business asked to be listed here and no reviewer asked to be quoted here, so there is one route out for both. Email standby@homegeneratorindex.ca. If you own a listed business, send the business name and what you want corrected or removed. If you wrote a review quoted on a profile, send the business name and the review, and we will remove the quote and your name from this site. You do not have to give a reason, and we will not ask you for one. We process correction and removal requests. Neither request affects what Google shows on its own listing, which we do not control.

What are your privacy rights under PIPEDA?

Under PIPEDA you can ask what personal information Home Generator Index holds about you, request a copy, ask us to correct it, and withdraw your consent to our use of it. In practice, for most readers, we hold nothing about you beyond server logs and what Google Analytics counts. Two groups are the exception: anyone who has emailed us, and anyone whose Google review is quoted on a profile page, which is published under a real first name without that person ever contacting us. If that is you, the section above is your route and you do not need to explain yourself. To exercise any of these rights, email us and we will respond within a reasonable time.

How does Home Generator Index comply with CASL?

Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) governs commercial email. Home Generator Index sends no marketing email, no newsletters and no promotional blasts. If you email us, we reply to you. If we ever introduce optional marketing email, it will be strictly opt-in with a clear unsubscribe link in every message, as CASL requires.

How does Home Generator Index store and retain data?

We keep email correspondence only as long as needed to handle it and any follow-up. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect what we hold, though no method of transmission over the internet is perfectly secure.

Three companies handle data on our behalf, and all three are outside Canada, so your information is stored and processed outside Canada and is subject to the laws of the country it sits in. They are: Vercel, which hosts the site and keeps the server logs; Google, which runs the analytics described above; and Forward Email, which relays mail sent to our address into a Google-hosted mailbox. We do not sell personal information to anyone and there is no fourth party. How long each of those three keeps its own records is set by that company, not by us.

How do I contact Home Generator Index about privacy?

For any privacy question or request, email standby@homegeneratorindex.ca. If we make material changes to this policy, we will post the updated version here with a new effective date. Please also review our terms of service, which govern your use of Home Generator Index.

What happens to what I send through the quote form?

If you fill in the quote form, we pass your name, contact details and your description of the job to one company listed in your area, so they can quote the work. One company, never a list, and never a pool of firms bidding against each other for you. The form will not send until you tick the box that says so, and that tick is recorded with the date and the exact sentence you agreed to. If you change your mind afterwards, write to us and we will delete what you sent.

Nothing else about you goes anywhere. Reading this site sends nobody anything.Home Generator Index sells no leads and no company can buy a better position: the order on every list comes from a published formula. When you call a company from a profile here, that call goes straight to the company, and we are not told it happened.
