Home Generator Index ranks Greater Toronto Area standby generator installers, transfer switch specialists and backup power contractors by a published 0-100 score built from reviews, what each company states on its own website and its record. A claimed listing publishes the number it wants you to call; every other listing carries a request form instead. Nothing here is for sale.

Home Generator Index covers 8 categories across the Greater Toronto Area. A standby install is rarely one trade: the electrical work is done by an ECRA/ESA licensed contractor, the gas connection is TSSA-regulated and often a separate gas fitter, and the panel may need upgrading before either can proceed. The categories below let you find the specific trade the job needs instead of a generalist. Behind the register sits a dataset of 480 companies, each scored out of 100 on its reviews, what it states on its own website and its record, at an average rating of 4.8★ across 430 rated companies. Every category hub ranks the companies working in that trade by that score, never ad spend, then links straight to the company's profile. Pick a category below to see the ranked shortlist and local coverage.
Standby generator, 7.5-11 kW, fully installed runs $6,500 to $9,500 per project (CAD) according to RenoHouse (Toronto, 2026 guide), and standby generator, 14-18 kw, fully installed runs $9,500 to $13,000 per project (CAD) (RenoHouse, Toronto, 2026 guide). Add 13% HST.
Home Generator Index researches market pricing for every category from named GTA contractor and manufacturer sources, not guesses, so you can check a quote against something real. Each cost guide separates the unit, the electrical work, the gas line and the Electrical Safety Authority inspection, then links to ranked companies for firm numbers on your own house.

Every row shows the real Google rating and review count, and a direct way to reach that company.

Home Generator Index maps every one of its 480 listings to a specific Toronto neighbourhood, borough or GTA city, so you compare companies that actually serve your street rather than one somewhere across the region. That matters here: a standby install needs a site visit, a gas meter capacity check and an inspection, so travel distance is part of the job. Coverage now spans 44 mapped areas, from downtown Toronto and the boroughs of North York, Scarborough and Etobicoke out to cities like Mississauga, Vaughan and Markham; 16 of them have enough listings to carry a page of their own. By listed-company count, the deepest coverage is in Richmond Hill (42), Toronto (35), Vaughan (35), Markham (33), Mississauga (32). Open the area closest to your address to see exactly who serves it.
Home Generator Index turns a scattered search into three steps. You compare companies ranked by a published score, check the going market price, then send a request to the one that fits. The whole register is free to read, and you are never obligated to hire.
Browse any of 8 categories or your GTA area and see companies ranked by the Home Generator Index Score, not ad spend.
Every category has a cost guide sourced from named GTA contractors and manufacturers, so you know the going rate before you call.
A company that has claimed its listing publishes the number it wants you to call. For every other row, the request form reaches Home Generator Index.
Home Generator Index gives every company a score out of 100 and ranks on it. It is built from three things: what customers said, worth 42 points; what the company states on its own website, worth 33; and how much is on its record, worth 25. Star ratings are blended with the dataset average of 4.8★ using a 10-review prior, so a rating only approaches its raw value once real volume backs it up: a 5.0 built on 4 reviews counts as 4.83, not 5.00, while a 4.8 built on 300 counts as 4.80. The middle part comes from fetching each company's own website and storing a quote for every claim we found, which is why a profile says a company says it is licensed rather than that it is: we have checked nothing with the ESA, TSSA or an insurer. Companies with fewer than 3 reviews or a rating below 4.0 sort below every company that clears that bar, so they never lead a ranked list here. No company can buy a higher position, and the method is identical for all 480 listings.
